St. Petersburg - White Nights
St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is very very far north, which causes a phenomena called White Nights. Essentially, the sun doesn't set until around 11 PM, and even when it does the sky is still very well lit. So summer nights in St. Petersburg are never fully dark which is really interesting to experience. White Nights also really mess with your perception of what time it is. It's something definitely worth experiencing.
Oh, and did I mention that sunset feels like it lasts for 5 hours. I don't know how long it actually lasts, but it is most definitely longer than the average sunset elsewhere. So for someone who is a self proclaimed sunset lover, this is quite magnificent.
On our first evening out and about in the city we took a walk from the Hermitage to the river. The sun was slowly melting away which gave us time to go on a walk through the Summer Garden. The sunlight cast a golden light on the flowers and fountains.
Enjoy,
Aleksandra
