Sicily Series: Taormina

Taormina, Sicily
May 2019

A short train ride from Aci Trezza lies the beautiful town of Taormina.
Home to the Ancient Greek Theater and amazing views of Mount Etna and the Mediterranean.

Taormina hosts a beautiful main shopping street with infinite adorable side streets. It's perfect for a day of exploring and getting lost. (Although you'll never truly be lost since its such a perfectly small town). Tucked away in the side streets are an abundance of cute shops and restaurants. I was lucky enough to stumble upon The Good Boutique (shown below) which carries an assortment of linen and genuine leather clothing. The pieces are all hand made in Italy. I had been on the look out for a good white linen button up, and finally found it here!

The Good Boutique. On a beautiful side street of Taormina.

The Greek Theatre is a beautiful stop that can't be missed! From the top seats of the theater you get to some amazing views of the stage's facade with beautiful back drop of Taormina and looming Mount Etna dipping into the sea. If you turn around and face the other direction you can see Reggia Calabria (the southern most tip of mainland otherwise known as the "toe of the boot").

A local on the bus ride from the train station into Taormina described Mount Etna as a lady who is always smoking. Sometimes when she gets made she'll erupt, but not too often. The way he said it sounded much nicer, especially with the Italian accent.

A great Sicilian dessert to try is granite! Bam Bar in Toarmina is well known for their granite. Granite translates to crushed ice. So, imagine an Italian ice you'd buy in the desert section of the super market, but much much better. I tried out the strawberry and lemon since those are my "go to" flavors. Granite is amazing and refreshing, especially after hours of walking around.

Ciao!
Aleksandra
